ISBN Help - Frequently asked questions regarding your books’ ISBN numbers.

What is an ISBN? Where do I find it?

An ISBN is a book's identification number. This number tells our system the title, author, edition, and publishing date. Every book should a 10 or 13 digit ISBN displayed on the back cover. If you can't located it, open the book and find the publisher / copyright page. The ISBN number will also be displayed there. If the book was printed before the 1970s there may not be an ISBN. Unfortunately, BRBooks.com is unable to purchase books without a ISBN.

What does an ISBN look like?
BR Books tip
You may receive more money for your items if you enter workbooks and textbooks separately.

ISBNs will be 10 or 13 digits, occasionally an X will follow the numbers.

These are all examples of valid ISBNs:
978-1449597917
0-07337-569-1
0-34581-457-X
Should I include the dashes in the ISBN?

No, always enter the ISBN without dashes. Our system will not recognize the book otherwise.

Are the leading zeros or the X at the end of the ISBN needed?

Yes, these are part of the ISBN number. Without them we will be unable to give you a price quote.

Which ISBN do I use if there are multiple ISBNs?

If there are multiple ISBNs on the back cover / copyright page, select the one that best describes the book.

For example:
If you are selling a paperback, choose the ISBN marked as "pbk." or "paperback." ONLY select the "package" ISBN if your book includes all original, supplemental materials (e.g. CD-ROMs, unused online access codes, workbooks). If these items are not included, please use the "text only" ISBN.

What if there is a sticker over the ISBN?

If there is a sticker over the ISBN number on the back cover, use the printed ISBN located on the copyright page. Bookstores may place their own sticker or unique ISBN on the back cover of a book. For this reason, always use the printed ISBN located on the copyright page.
